After video of squabble surfaces, ex-IGP appeals for privacy

Malaysiakini : Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan has appealed to the public to respect his privacy. This followed the widespread sharing of video clips depicting a man resembling him in an altercation with a woman.

"This is a matter of family privacy. Do not get involved. Those who cause speculation will face legal action," tweeted Musa (above).

Musa was responding to a Twitter user who demanded that he explain the context of the three video clips shared by a Twitter account with the handle @makcikbawangmu. The video clips depicted an irate woman talking to a man in a house. A child was present.

At one point, as the man attempted to leave, the woman could be heard asking for her mobile phone to be returned. Musa was the inspector-general of police from 2006 to 2010. In 2013, he joined the Pakatan Rakyat security advisory council as an adviser in the run-up to the 13th parliamentary election.

In 2020, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh sued Musa for defamation. This followed Musa's claim that Yeoh wrote a book on turning Malaysia into a "Christian nation".

In 1998, he was the officer who investigated allegations of sodomy against then opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Although the High Court convicted Anwar of sodomy charges, the Federal Court eventually overturned the conviction.
