OCT : This deputy minister doesn't know who gives him his rice bowl. His rice bowl doesn't come from Islamic kitty but from Parliament which upholds Constitution laws. He shouldn't asked Rakyat to respect State Islamic laws when the most important respect and loyalty is to uphold Constitution laws at all cost.

No two ways about it If this deputy minister cannot do this one crucial and non negotiable task, he shouldn't be a deputy minister as his loyalty and trust are questionable. By right he should resign and join State legislative division to take care of Islamic affairs. Respect cannot be asked but earned in a honest and fair way to everyone irrespective of color, creed, race and religion.

Don't ask for respect when it goes against the Constitution laws just because it is related to religion. It belittle your religion right away. The Govt pays you to defend the Constitution but not the religion when the religion way of doing things is wrong. IndigoKite6964 : Here is where there seems to be a surreptitious move to undermine the federal laws by enacting religious laws at state level that runs contrary to the constitution and the decisions of the federal courts. Nonetheless, states that allow children to be converted with the consent of 1 parent .. by law.. has run foul of the federal constitution with the landmark judgement by the federal court in Indra Gandhi's case.

It seems incredible that ministers don't understand that the federal court has the powers to decide on the interpretation of the constitution and that all laws, even religious ones, must be in harmony with the constitution. This was what was ruled unanimously by the federal court in the case brought to them by SIS yet yesterday. Perhaps this fella does not read the news. (Can he even read?)

if there were to be a review of the religious state laws in every state, I have a feeling that there are many that will run foul of the constitution. The obvious ones that those carrying the death penalty because capital punishments are the prerogative of the civil courts. It also seems incredible that there are so many in this blog that understands this and that this minister don't.
