I served 21 years in the Marines with 3 years in combat. No war has ever been won with air power alone. It takes boots on the ground to break the will of the enemy to continue to fight. We've been in Afghanistan for 20 years and could have defeated the Taliban if we had been committed overwhelming force to essentially eliminate them, including in Pakistan.

We had our chance but opted for a war of attrition which we've tried since WW II and have never won. I feel sorry for the people, but either they have the will to defend their own country or the Taliban will defeat them in the end. Time to let them settle it for themselves.
