Great Barrier Reef downgraded, Australia blames China
A UNESCO panel has recommended that the Great Barrier Reef be stripped of its World Heritage Site tag. Australia is blaming the China-led panel for settling a political score at UNESCO.
Interesting argument - if UNESCO says that the Great Barrier Reef has to be protected - Australia should propose that all the coral islands in the China Sea should also be protected. After all these islands that have been occupied mainly by China support marine life and island ecology.
China had destroyed reefs in South China sea and built artificial islands.
