Major Razali Hashim( RMAF) with the Ferret memorial in Kalemie(Albertville) 2016

Feedback from Major Razali Hashim(RMAF) head of our UN Observer Group in Katanga 2016/17; nostalgia for the Malaysian(MSF) is ever present in Kalemie, Nyunzu and elsewhere.

It is simply amazing we are still fondly remembered after over 50 years!!

They longed for the return of Malaysian soldiers to Kalemie to carry out peace keeping operations. Indeed,  it is most gratifying to hear such news. It made our Service to King and Country really worthwhile, especially for those who had served there. BRAVO!

My heartfelt thanks to Mr Thierry Matteis, a senior UN official in Kalemie who discovered this Ferret Scout Car. Not only was he responsible for the excellent restoration work done; he also spent many hours tirelessly researching the MSF role in the Congo. He concluded correctly that this Ferret belonged to 2 Reece.

After painting the beautiful 2 Reece emblem on the turret, for good measure he added the jalur gembilang in front( which we never had). This would surely make many Malaysians truly proud.

It would be appropriate for Mindef to acknowledge his great contribution. Personally, I feel he deserved a gong for planting the national flag in Kalemie, literally in the Heart of Africa for Malaysia!
