Sunday in the new Germany: Muslim migrant screaming “Allahu akbar” disrupts three church services

Rhauderfehn / Ostrhauderfehn – This morning during the services in three churches in the parishes of Rhauderfehn and Ostrhauderfehn, threats were committed by a 33-year-old man from Rhauderfehn of Ivorian nationality. At around 9:55 am, the police received the information that a male in the street outside the Hope Church in Rhauderfehn was said to have disrupted the service by loud shouting.

The male then left the parish and went to worship in the Catholic Church on Kirchstrasse in Rhauderfehn. There, too, the man drew attention to himself by shouting loudly and calling out “Allahu Akbar”. He then left the church and found himself in the Petruskirche on Kirchstrasse in the Ostrhauderfehn community. In this case, too, he disrupted the worship service taking place there.

According to current information, the 33-year-old Ivorian verbally threatened visitors to the service. Some of them then fled from the service. The man then also left the church. The police, who were already looking for the person at this point, were able to locate and arrest him around 11:20 a.m. on the main street in the commercial area in Ostrhauderfehn.

During the subsequent search, the 33-year-old resisted considerably. The officers restrained the man and took him to the police station. No weapons or other dangerous objects were found when the person and his belongings were searched. State security officers from the police inspection in Leer/Emden have started the investigation. The investigation did not reveal any evidence that this was a politically motivated act.

During the fact-finding process, the 33-year-old made a confused and psychologically conspicuous impression. For this reason, the district of Leer was informed of the incident. Due to his psychological abnormalities, the man had to be admitted to a specialist clinic. According to what is currently known, no one was injured by the actions.

The Aurich public prosecutor decided to take further measures to clarify the situation. The 33-year-old is now under investigation.
