I was in the military in the late 1970s and 1980s. I am a woman and worked as a behavioral science specialist, an E-4 & E-5. I worked in at 2nd Gen psych with a group that did all the psych work ups for murders and rapists in the European Theater. The shit I heard and saw at 22 -24 years of age. I did intake interviews and testing on these people. I would sit in the same room with these guys, by myself. Many were sent to Leavenworth. We even had a few that were sentenced to death. The question I was taught to ask was after you ask them if they are sorry for what you did, they always say yes.
So, then you ask WHY are you sorry? 99% of the time they will say "because I got caught", it's all about them. These guys were sickos. At 67 years I still remember those conversations.
