Malaysiakini : There has been an increase in funds flowing to Iran and its proxies,
including Hamas, through the Malaysian financial system, according to a
report.Quoting a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Reuters said a top sanctions official from the US Treasury Department will come to Malaysia. “Treasury's
under-secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, Brian Nelson,
is expected to discuss US’ concerns and the sanctions risk such
activity poses, the source said. Treasury's general counsel, Neil
MacBride, will also be on the trip.
“The visit comes as the
Treasury has increased its focus on terrorist financing through
Southeast Asia, including through fundraising efforts and illicit
Iranian oil sales, the source said,” read the report.
In December, Reuters
said the Treasury Department had imposed sanctions on four
Malaysian-based companies, which were accused of being fronts for
supporting Iran’s drone production.
Spratyls888 : There are so many religious fanatics that vehemently defended Palestine by all means but at least condemn the terror evil group Hamas that went on rampage of mass gang rape, mass kidnapping & mass killings as per United Nations report.
As a humble Malaysian, i supported Palestine wholeheartedly & i am all for two state solutions.
BUT i condemn evil Hamas that victimised Palestinians & use Palestinians to milk more donations while evil Hamas leaders live like a King at Qatar with their stash away tens of billions.
Evil hamas also used women & kids as human shields.
Why are Malaysia so engrossed with Palestine & only Palestine? What about Uyghurs genocide? What about Rohingya genocide? What about Yezedi genocide? What about Syrians genocide?
What about Sudanese genocide? What about Yemenis genocide?
Who gave Malaysian the privilege to choose which is genocide & which is not? Why only care about Muslim from Palestines? Are the rest at Middle East not Muslim?
Harimoo : Some geniuses here think China will come and save Madani? Well common sense dictates they will step back and let the country collapse so they can buy it on the cheap. They are not going to prop up PMX. He cant be trusted and keeps shooting his mouth off. Who wants him as an ally?
Einestein : Why did you not talk about 500,000 Muslim killed in Syria?
Why did you not talk about 380,000 Muslim killed in Yemen?
Why did you not talk about 240,000 Muslim killed in Afghanistan?
Why did you not one talk about 500,000 Muslim killed in Sudan?
Why did you not talk about 300,000 Muslim killed in Iraq?
Why no mass protests in European capitals after more than 2 million Muslim killed at above nation?
Why no ceasefire demands?
Why no UN condemnations?
Amira why nobody cares after so many Muslim killed?
Amira
why is everyone talking about Palestine and only Palestine?
did you condemn evil Hamas for Oct 7?
Vijay47 : Violence begats violence. In the face of what is happening in Palestine, it would have been perfectly acceptable if our prime minister had expressed distress over the toll befalling the victims and had offered his assistance, humble as it may be, towards securing a peace from River to Sea.
But no, Anwar Ibrahim wants to be a hero to local extremists and he boldly, unwisely, and unfairly stood behind not only Gaza but more towards Hamas itself complete with scarf.
It must be noted that he has not once acknowledged the 7th October massacre carried out by Hamas.
The American turkey is now coming home to roost and we already hear sounds of sanctions.
Of course, Anwar Ibrahim can make another of his profound speeches, that “whatever the consequences, whether we starve or suffer, we will stand boldly with our Hamas brothers”. Sure, that would make great copy and sound bites, the natives would cheer hoarse in support.
But slowly, the effects would assume more tangible form and Malaysia would be relegated more towards the disdained and discarded. We will see more news like “KFC announces the closure of 108 branches”, the economy would begin to totter, and more will discover the meaning of unemployment.
Yet who knows, you might choose to alleviate the impact by more rewards to Felda and the civil service.
Let us face facts, Anwar Ibrahim, the only reason you support Gaza is because the victims are mainly Muslim, and please, spare us that crap about “No, Christians and Jews are also suffering.”
Can you please quote one instance where Malaysia apart from the usual token platitudes rendered assistance to non-Muslim regions?
Many here may be too young to remember, but our only leader who stood on the side of righteousness though against a Muslim nation was our beloved Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Yes, beloved.
You can preach and rant all you want, Anwar Ibrahim, but you know which side of the emotion balance you sit.
OCT : This Gaza conflict doesn't concern to all Malaysians except to the majority race and religion. PMX has gone overboard in overstating his support for Hamas and Iran. Malaysia is no superpower to take side to go against Uncle Sam. ME countries and Asean have not been so vocal as Malaysia.
Their Heads of States don't go round the world to voice their support and antagonised their trading partners. PMX is either stupid or callous to sacrifice the goodwill of our largest trading partner. Malaysia has made headlines for the wrong reasons. It doesn't matter whether Malaysia is sanctioned later as the news that Malaysia is under scrutiny for potential sanctions is bad enough.
Let's hope Microsoft doesn't changed their mind in investigating in Malaysia. Why cari pasal when Malaysia should be neutral to every country big or small? PMX has not shown any positive in many major problems like high debt of over RM1 trillion, inflation, food security, peace, harmony, education ranking and many others.
PMX should learn how to keep his mouth shut. PMX should take care of Malaysia interest and not another country which doesn't concern Malaysia. Don't be foolhardy and reckless to jeopardise Malaysia future. Malaysia has enough internal problems to be resolved. Looks like PMX is a one term PM by the way Malaysia is going.
Man on the Silver Mountain : Our PM went to Qatar to shake Hanniyeh’s hand. He went to Turkiye to fraternise with Erdogan. He publicly endorses Iran’s firing more than 300 ballistic missiles into Israel which America fighter jets shooting down.
Our politicians declared their opposition to the U.S. by boycotting its multinational corporations. KFC has closed more than 100 outlets in Malaysia and Starbucks suffered losses beginning of this year. You cannot be anymore direct to tell the U.S. that you are hostile to them and their interest. In other word, you are telling them that they are the enemies.
Do not feel safe when your acts are hostile to others. You should expect retaliation. There are many ways that a superpower can hurt us if they want to. They simply find something already in place, no need to create new one, like the sanctioning of Iran. You defy that, they have every right to have a go at you. Now let’s see how many battalions we have that we can send against the might of America?
apanama is back : PM Anwar, you have given a bad name to Malaysia, internationally. Besides Reuters, the news has been picked by the South China Morning Post as well.
As a Prime Minister, you should be thinking before throwing your support behind Hamas, a terr*rist group.
It does not matter whether you support the political arm of Hamas or others but the whole of Hamas has been classified as a terr*rist group.
Do not tell me that this is the first time the world has had a conflict in the Middle East.
This Palestine-Israel conflict is a long-term conflict even during Mahathir's first tenure when PLO and Arafat were around. But Mahathir was cautious about the support Malaysia gave to Palestine.
None of the Malaysia PMs had supported a terr*rist group before in our nation's 67 years history.
You are the FIRST sitting Prime Minister to try to be an international hero by doing so. What is a big deal about supporting Hamas in your speech in Germany? Now that speech is haunting Malaysia in the form of a visit by a top sanction official from the US Treasury Department.
Whether there will be a sanction or not is another matter.
However, the visit itself has given a 'black eye' to Malaysia by you, Mr. Prime Minister.
Malaysia will not be the same anymore on the international front after this visit by US officials.
You are fully responsible for this blunder and I prefer you better resign from your post since this is a grave mistake on your part in our foreign policy of supporting a terr*rist group.
