Malaysiakini : Local shoe company Vern's has clarified that a graphic on the soles
of some of their footwear that has caused controversy, is a stylised
heel. This is after an uproar over parts of the heel strap in the
design supposedly resembling the Arabic calligraphy for the word
"Allah".
In a statement, the company said the logo was not intended to insult any religion. "The logo is 100 percent inspired by the silhouette of straps attached with a high heel. "However, we acknowledge there are weaknesses in the logo design
which can be misinterpreted, and hurt the feelings of many," Vern's said
in a statement.
It
added that it has taken immediate steps to remove shoes that carry the
design and is willing to refund customers who have bought such shoes. "The management humbly apologises to all and hopes for kindness to be given space to rectify the mistake," Vern's said.
Krabian : Are we taking insanity and stupidity a few steps too far with all this recent religious brouhaha just to satisfy some ego?

Léon Moch : In this case, it is a design, a drawing of a shoe, and not a type of writing at all. Why should Vern's apologise, take the shoes off its shelves and offer refunds?
If tomorrow a cook fries noodles and the end result happens to curl in a certain way to resemble Arabic writing of holy words, would the cook have to apologise and stop selling noodles?
Proof of pudding always in the eating : The bullying and intimidation of minorities continues. Why do you need to apologize if you can explain yourself satisfactorily? By apologizing 'humbly' you have given in to bigots who will see everything wrong in whatever you do. That's called dhimmi status.

No court in the world would have found you guilty especially when it had already been admitted by the extremists themselves that there was nothing offensive about your shoe design. So why the apology, why the refunds? Don’t you have lawyers to advise you?

DonGetMeWrong : What a letdown by Vern? It goes to show that NM has to bow down to religious fanatics that can come up with any adsurb interpretation of Allah whenever or whichever way they deem fit.
And all hell break lose and any entities has to withdraw goods from their stock and apologised even though it is their hallucinations. From now on they can just simply implied anything they see and claimed it looks like Allah.
