Malaysiakini : Several government agencies have issued notices warning civil servants against extramarital affairs. The integrity units of various government bodies appeared to have issued the notices, with some of them posted on social media over the past week.
Among the agencies that posted the notice publicly include the Customs Department, Agriculture Department, and Federal Territories Islamic Department.
Each notice said extramarital affairs that cause problems between husband and wife were a disciplinary offence that tarnished the reputation of the civil service. Further, the notices stated that for Muslim civil servants, affairs are a syariah offence.
The Agriculture Department’s notice highlighted that enticing a married woman is also a criminal offence, as per Section 498 of the Penal Code. It is unclear what prompted the issuance of the notices against adultery.
VioletGoose0930 : Beware of senior officers who go for short courses or outstation duties @ taxpayers' expense while having a little fun on the sidelines. They call it R&R.
Hmmmmmmmm : An example of a moral police state in action. Of course extramarital affair is not a good thing but to actually print out leaflets to remind all the civil servants about it? Sounds like it is very rampant and out of control. I guess lots of out of town travels for interesting courses can lead to intercourses.
Vent : Clandestine affairs in the workplace aren't exactly uncommon. But a government circular warning civil servants against extramarital affairs is a different ball game entirely.
Clearly the phenomenon is rampant now but who is the government to play God and can it prevent it's apparent proliferation? Me thinks not! I've been witness to a few in my time in public service. For one lust or sexual attraction trumps any religious injunction on adultery.
And as the civil service is chock-a -block Malay it also appears to be a Malay propensity. Lastly as polygamy is allowed in Islam (and even encouraged by certain quarters) it may be perpetuating it as the culprits can in many cases marry each other.
Since polygamy is Syariah compliant why would a man not want to marry the love of his live in the office even if his wife won't agree to a divorce? It only becomes tricky as in almost all such cases when the woman is also married. Then she will be dragged to the Syariah courts for Zina and meeted with her due punishment as per Syariah's gender biased laws!
Read the more than 80 comments here....But it becomes sordidly even trickier if they are caught and neither one of the culprits wants to leave his or her spouse. They just wanted a good old fling with nary the consequences. Tough luck then!
World Citizen : The civil service is more than 90% MM. So are they admitting that the problem is rampant among the MM. So why all this religious hypocrisy when even the FT Islamic Department is not spared!
V S : Civil service notice should highlight efficiency , punctuality , and customer relations not extra marital affairs. It indicates the mentality of our civil service bosses and their subordinates . They are all there for the wrong reasons. A set of incompetents.
