Vijay47​ : He is a great orator. He speaks very well. So well that almost all his listeners stand up and cheer. Anak Iban, India, Cina, Melayu, Kadasan, semua anak saya. But Anwar Ibrahim is a dangerous person. Is he a prime minister suited for the well-being of a multi-religious Malaysia?

Let us look at his recent contributions to religious outlook. My first total shock was in respect of his response to that madman in Sweden who burned a Koran. Anwar Ibrahim was almost berserk, almost frothing at the mouth in how he was shrieking about what action should be taken against that man by the Swedish government.

Why? Would any prime minister or religious leader anywhere in the world speak in that manner about the actions of one unstable man in a distant land? Then to everyone’s shock, he grandly announced that JAKIM would henceforth form part of the Maidani government’s decision-making process.

Why? For the first time in our history, a religious body was being raised to such heights of power, an elevation that even Hadi Awang had never demanded. The third is more by way of omission than commission. When another madman took an entire airplane hostage with some religious rantings in Sydney, you had nothing to say, Anwar Ibrahim. Why not?

You comment only on events in more distant Sweden? Perhaps like that mental passenger tried to portray, you too are a slave to religious bias. Many here would argue that as a Muslim, there is nothing wrong when you officiate at an Islamic conversion ceremony. After all, we have freedom of religion, depending of course on the direction.

But the prime minister does not conduct a ritual as sensitive as conversion, particularly in the delicate times as we have now. What would your next act be, proselytizing to school children? With your talents, why don’t you move to Afghanistan or Pakistan, Anwar Ibrahim? I am sure they would love to have you amongst them. So would we.

Malaysiakini : The Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH) has expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim publicly presiding over a religious conversion ceremony at a mosque in Klang.

“As the nation’s leader, he should consider whether his actions align with the well-being of the entire population and the sentiments of people from all ethnic backgrounds. “The prime minister’s open participation in the religious conversion and his posting of photos (of the ceremony) on social media have undoubtedly displayed a lack of religious sensitivity,” it said in a statement this afternoon.

KLSCAH noted that while Article 11 of the Federal Constitution guaranteed freedom of religion, Anwar as prime minister should not publicly preside over religious conversion ceremonies for individuals of other ethnicities.   “This action not only causes discomfort among non-Muslim communities but also leads to confusion among the people.

“As the leader representing various ethnic groups and the head of the multi-ethnic political party, the prime minister should carefully consider whether publicly conducting religious conversions is meant to showcase a particular direction for the nation or to uphold specific values.

“Alternatively, could there be other implications or hidden agendas behind this act?” it asked. Previously, Anwar also courted criticism from other quarters over the religious conversion ceremony involving an Indian youth.
