This effort I believe will fail because Malay students in the internet era, many with addiction to TikTok , internet porn and video games will resent having religion being forced down their throats.

There might be unintended consequences to making these selected Hadith collections compulsory learning because it might actually undermine the students faith in Islam, particularly if they are encouraged to apply critical thinking in understanding them. There is new understanding of the origins of Islam and veracity of the Islamic texts themselves, based on current and ongoing research.

These findings confound the standard Islamic narrative which might undermine faith in Islam.

For example:

1) the Hadiths came into existence 200-250 years after the death of Prophet Muhammad in AD 632, calling into question the authenticity of the sayings because of the more than 200 hundred year separation from the source.

2) Mecca as a city did not exist in any world maps during the time of Muhammad ( AD 570 - AD 632 ). The first mention of Mecca was 100 years later.

3) The direction of prayer "Qiblat" in the mosques in the first hundred years of Islam point to the city of Petra in Jordan and not to Mecca which confounds the claims in the Quran.

4) The early Arabic Ummayad dynasty ( AD 661-750 ) coins show crosses indicating that the early Ummayad caliphs were Christians and not Muslims as previously thought.

The standard Islamic narrative is being challenged by novel findings by academics studying the origins of Islam mainly in Western universities and by independent researchers. It is highly sensitive because it is even suggesting the possibility that Prophet Muhammad did not even exist.

Mazhilamani : Mr PM Sir, the nons are not against Islamic Teachings being taught to Muslim students in a renewed format ,so long it does not influence others, especially young minds. The Nons never harboured any concern or trepidation for Islam taught and practiced forty or fifty years ago but its form has changed drastically over the last thirty years. The Islam of today has assimilated with politics and has become difficult even for Muslims to separate or to see them separately.

Take History subject as taught in schools, our students have no knowledge of how this country transformed from a jungle into what it is today, the sacrifices of our people before and after Merdeka, of our Founding leaders, of the great civilisations and their leaders, the events that triggered the first and second world wars and the bitter lessons learnt from the two wars.

Today it is all about Islamic history. What is the motive behind this. Our leaders introduced Bahasa Melayu and later Bahasa Malaysia to unite the races and that goal succeeded. Malaysians also readily welcome racial political Parties as Umno, MCA and MIC . But when religion is infused into political parties, it is beginning to divide the people. For that matter even the Malays are divided as Conservatives, Ultras and Moderates.

They are further divided as PAS, Umno,Bersatu and Amanah Malays. I am sure more Malay Parties will be formed to further divide the Malays into smaller denominations. Soon we can never have a dominant Malay Party. Why can't the Malay Leaders understand that the problem is not about the Nons and economic dominance, but about the splitting divisions happening among the Malays.

Ranjit Singh Malhi : We have more than 200,000 unemployed graduates, with the vast majority being Malays. If I were the PM, I would instruct the Education Minister to focus more on enhancing soft skills, including communication and critical thinking skills, in our schools.

Just a reminder: Vietnam, a much lower-income nation than Malaysia, has a much higher quality education system than ours. If this is not a wake-up call for remedial action, even God cannot help us. I was told from young that "God helps those who help themselves".
