Rudyard Kipling"
āWhen you're left wounded on Afganistan's plains and
the women come out to cut up what remains, Just roll to your rifle
and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldierā
General Douglas MacArthur"
āWe are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.ā
āIt is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.ā āOld soldiers never die; they just fade away.
āThe soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.ā
āMay God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .ā āThe object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
āNobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
āIt is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
Anwar's aide: PN using govt open houses to 'provoke hatred'
Thursday, April 27, 2023
Malaysiakini : Perikatan Nasional (PN) is trying to turn the governmentās Hari Raya
open houses with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim across six states into a
hostile issue, to score political brownie points. So said Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, Anwarās political secretary.
āThe
state-level Aidilfitri celebrations should not be labelled as
excessive, especially when the menteris besar of the three PN-led
states, including Kedah, has agreed to join in the celebrations. āEfforts
to get close to the rakyat across state borders should be a shared
responsibility between the federal and state governments,ā he said in a
statement today.
āClaims that the open house events are politically motivated are
malicious in nature and meant to provoke the peopleās hatred against the
PMās leadership.ā Kamil was responding to PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan, who said the open houses were excessive, indefensible and a waste of money.
The
PAS leader also accused the coalition government of āriding on
religionā (menunggang agama) by āhijackingā the Hari Raya celebrations,
which is an important annual Islamic event, to achieve its political
objectives. Anwar previously denied
the open house tour is motivated by upcoming elections in the six
states, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, and Negeri
Sembilan - which must be held in a few months from now.
Ineffective opposition
DAP central executive
committee member Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali echoed Kamil, saying PN has
run out of ammunition by blowing up the open house matter.
āThe
coalitionās three top honchos (Muhyiddin Yassin, Hamzah Zainudin and
Abdul Hadi Awang) are constantly not present in Parliament to engage and
debate with the prime minister. āIt looks like even outside the
Dewan Rakyat, they (PN) have no policy-related questions they can take
on the PM with until they want to blow up this feast-related issue.
āThis shows that PN has failed to play the role of an effective opposition, as promised,ā he said in a statement.
āAsk Media Primaā
Meanwhile, Kamil, who is also the PKR deputy youth leader, slammed accusations that the government had a part in the eleventh-hour cancellation of PNās ātakbir rayaā which was to be broadcast on TV3, on the eve of Hari Raya. āAttempts
to portray that the government had a role in the cancellation of PNās
takbir raya is a clear provocation meant to ruin Putrajayaās reputation.
āThe government did not in any way influence Media Primaās decision to cancel the programme. āIf PN wants to get a reply on the ātechnical problemsā cited by TV3, they should refer to the TV station for clarification, instead of blaming the government for the cancellation.ā
This was in response to Takiyuddinās remark, urging the government to ācome cleanā on the reasons for the programmeās cancellation.
Dubbing the ātechnical problemsā excuse as āodd and unacceptableā, Takyuddin urged TV3
and the government, particularly the Communications and Digital
Ministry, to explain how there was no political interference to prevent
the video from being aired. āThe integrity of TV3 and the
ministry depends on their readiness to be transparent and professional,
especially in honouring contracts and promises that have been agreed
upon formally,ā he had said.
It was reported that PN secured a five-minute slot on TV3
for its takbir raya - the reciting of the takbir to mark Aidilfitri -
to be aired on the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri last Friday (April 21). A source at TV3 told Malaysiakini PN paid for the slot, which was scheduled for 10.20pm that day.
PN promoted the programme on social media but when the appointed time came, a TV3
livestream instead aired a drama along with a series of commercial
advertisements, including a Hari Raya Aidilfitri greeting from Home
Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Dr Suresh Kumar : This is an excellent strategy to show your face at least and earn some goodwill from the Malay heartlands. This may increase the Malay votes for AI. I have said numerous times that PH must engage with the Malay heartlands. Without a minimum of 30% Malay votes, PH will be at the mercy of UMNO in the so-called UG.
