Rudyard Kipling"
“When you're left wounded on Afganistan's plains and
the women come out to cut up what remains, Just roll to your rifle
and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier”
General Douglas MacArthur"
“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”
“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.” “Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.
“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .” “The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
“Nobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
SIS: T'ganu syariah amendments show ignorance of women issues By Martin Vengadesan
Wednesday, December 21, 2022
Malaysiakini : Sisters In Islam (SIS) executive director Rozana Isa has
questioned the wisdom of the latest amendments to the Terengganu syariah
code, saying that it does not seem to consider the issues facing
prejudice and violence against women.
“We have gone
through several economic crises, natural disasters, and a global
pandemic. Have we learnt nothing at all about the impact of such a
crisis, i.e. that women and girls would be the first to suffer because
they have limited autonomy over their bodies and become more vulnerable
to physical and sexual violence?
“It is the norm,
rather than an exception, in our social and community narratives and
upbringing that women and girls are raised to be obedient to authority
or anyone who is authoritative in their lives,” Rozana (above) told Malaysiakini.
On
Dec 1, the Terengganu state legislative assembly passed an amendment to
the Syariah Criminal Offences (Punishments) Enactment 2022 to
strengthen the implementation of syariah law in the state, which
includes the addition of four new sections, among others.
Kilimanjaro : This very glaringly shows that SIS had not been able to penetrate into the political sphere held by PAS. As long as the state "belongs" to PAS, all SIS can do is to issue statements.
We have to take it that by voting PAS into power, the Muslims of Trengganu support the Islamic laws it is seeking to expand.
If SIS wants a change, it has no choice but to enter politics, which may provide the opportunity and platform to take the issues to the people of Trengganu directly.
It is the people of Trengganu it needs to convince and unless the majority of the Trengganu voters are not supportive, there is nothing much SIS can expect to achieve.Unless SIS is politically proactive, it may have to live with it.
The narratibve in this coountry is clear.
There are lines insofar as religious issues are concerned. The MM and the NM have to observe this to maintain the peace and it will be pointless to expect the NM to voice for the MM. Whether this is a blessing or a curse - that is up to the invidual to determine.
Doc : The good women of Terengganu keep voting PAS again and again hence I am certain that they are aware that PAS is a Islamic party that is hell bent on resending women's rights in the states they control.
Hence if they still keep voting for PAS then let it be if their women right are abused over in Terengganu as the Women there are cool with PAS abusive actions on them.
Cogito Ergo Sum : Unfortunately, the deception is so great they don’t even know they are being deceived. And another misfortune, the people in Kelantan and Terengganu voted in PN in expectations of a corruption free state.
But, they forgot it comes with a heavy price. Now, imagine, the whole nation under a similar administration. We were almost on the brink…. Thank the king for his wise decision.
Aisyalam : It is not ignorance of women issues. If their doctors can deny the right to look after patients in the name of religion, as in the HIV vaccine case, one has to question where are their priorities.
Krabian : If it's not ignorance, PAS won't do. That's PAS trademark for backwardness.
Nuyiko :
The amendment doesn't stop menteri besar from holidaying oversea while the entire state is flooded, it just want to control people, especially women.
