Rudyard Kipling"
“When you're left wounded on Afganistan's plains and
the women come out to cut up what remains, Just roll to your rifle
and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier”
General Douglas MacArthur"
“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”
“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.” “Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.
“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .” “The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
“Nobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
Scholar moots Mandarin, Islam lessons to foster understanding By Isabelle Leong
Monday, December 12, 2022
Will you be talking about Quran 3:3 which says, "He has sent down upon you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel". What about this Quran 16:67? We don't need tafsirans as this is from the Quran, trying their level best to hoodwink others at the same time claiming it is the perfect book.
Will you talk about what happened to the Jews of Medina and the pure unadulterated hate against the Jews and Christians where you curse them 17 times a day. Muslims should learn about other faiths, which they do not at all know about. Yours will only be propaganda, remember you have to blindly submit, like what Lebai Hadi mentioned to be a Pak Turut.
Malaysiakini : If Anwar Ibrahim wishes to be remembered as the country’s figure of
unity, the prime minister ought to identify issues that are the cause of
disputes among Muslims and between races.
Religious scholar Engku
Ahmad Fadzil Engku Ali has called on the newly minted prime minister to
consider offering incentives to the Malay community to learn Mandarin
and at the same time, the non-Muslims should be given a basic
understanding of Islam.
Vijay47 : Like Greeks bearing gifts, Muslim scholars suggesting Islamic studies to non-Muslims as the path towards national unity generally should not be trusted. We have heard that song before.
Many times. Remember the Jawi lessons on TV a happy mixed lifetime ago? It was assured to be just educational with no intrusion of religion but before we could say “My Sweet Lord”, it had mutated into Islamic lessons.
So please, Engku Ahmad Fadzil Engku Ali, Hadi Awang, Zakir Naik, that gut from Perlis, and the rest of the spiritual boys, spare us your brand of proposals towards healing the world.
Snake oil is no longer in fashion, even in the pasar malam.
Your venture into national unity and peace on earth to men of goodwill comes with a new flavour of cunningness – Mandarin and Islamic lessons. Thus you attempt to present your credentials as an openminded scholar – Hey!
I can’t be a bad guy since I have also included Mandarin in my prescription! Yeah, sure.
If you hold that your proposed lessons on Islam to non-Muslims are only for the sharing of knowledge without any religious indoctrination, won’t that goal be better achieved on a four-lane highway – Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism being also included?
What a wonderful world it would be, with Malaysians freely practising their own faiths even as they know and respect other beliefs? No? I knew you would say that.
Anyway, Engku Ahmad Fadzil Engku Ali, Merry Christmas.
Proarte : With due respect, religious scholar Engku
I think it is about time Malays are given courses on Christianity , Buddhism, Hinduism and Animism. Why deprive Malays of the "Unexplainable Beauties" of these religions?
This will foster unity in a better way because the extant "Ketuanan Islam" which has been around for over 40 years breeds resentment and disunity.
There is too much talk about Islam in Malaysia and less action on the supposed "Unexplainable Beauty" of Islam.
When will we ever see this aspect of Islam? The fact is it is rather elusive because the religion itself with the Quran, Authentic Hadiths and the Biographies of Muhammad can often paint an intolerant and violent aspect of Islam.
Muslim scholars should deal with the various shades to Islam and perhaps accept there are aspects of the faith which may not be compatible with pluralism.
Malays should be taught to reject the intolerant aspects of Islam which religious leader and scholar Hadi Awang promulgates. So who practises the Islam of "Unexplainable Beauty", Hadi Awang or Engku Ahmad? It seems the majority of Malays in Malaysia are in favour of the Islam of Hadi Awang which openly regards non-Muslims as second class citizens who have to be "Pak Turut" to Muslims.
Engku Aziz is not promoting unity when he says non-Muslims should be given courses on understanding Islam because the reality of Malaysian life is that we can never escape from Islamic rhetoric which is incessant. What Engku Ahmad should be promoting is understanding of other faiths which is also in line with the Federal Constitution which states that all religions other than Islam can be practised in peace and harmony.
It is this aspect of the Constitution which is blatantly ignored and gives rise to the dangerous "Ketuanan Islam" mentality.
Islam being the religion of the Federation does not mean that Malaysia is an Islamic State. The former Lord President and PAS member Salleh Abbas ruled that the laws of Malaysia are "Secular" other than those pertaining to Malay "Family Law".
