No Atheists
In A Foxhole

Rudyard Kipling

" ā€œWhen you're left wounded on
Afganistan's plains and

the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle

and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldierā€
General Douglas MacArthur

" ā€œWe are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.ā€

ā€œIt is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.ā€
ā€œOld soldiers never die; they just fade away.
ā€œThe soldier, above all other people, prays for peace,
for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.ā€
ā€œMay God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .ā€
ā€œThe object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

ā€œNobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
ā€œIt is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died.
Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Scarred by ISA ordeal, DAP MP inks memo to home minister on Sosma By Puteri Aisya Sufian
Tuesday, December 20, 2022

Malaysiakini : Fifteen years ago, V Ganabatirau, who is now the MP for Klang, was among the five Hindraf leaders held under the now-defunct Internal Security Act (ISA). ā€œI was detained without trial for 455 days.ā€œI know what these men have gone through and it upsets me that people still believe that Sosma shouldnā€™t be abolished,ā€ he told reporters.

The DAP lawmaker was referring to the controversial Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), which replaced the ISA.

Ganabatirau and two other Pakatan Harapan MPs, Chiew Choon Man and RSN Rayer, had inked a memorandum to Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail requesting bail for Sosma detainees and for the legislation to be reviewed.

Rights group Suaram representatives and families of the detainees had gathered outside Parliament this morning to submit the memorandum, which was received by Saifuddinā€™s aide.

Pledging to pursue the matter with the minister because he wanted ā€œjustice and fair trial for the detaineesā€, Ganabatirau said: ā€œThe appropriate question is whether or not it breaches human rights to arrest people without reason or evidence.ā€

GreenBear : The PH people in the cabinet should remind themselves that PH only got 81 seats. You can shout "it's a unity government, not a PH government" all you want, but the fact is, Anwar is still the PM. So a lot of your voters expect meaningful reforms, especially on something as important as not being arbitrarily detained and taken away from our families. Don't take your voters for granted. Not all of us have blind loyalty towards Anwar.

GreenWalrus1310 : After a change of Govt. the Rakyat still have to go through this "abolishment of Sosma" again. WTF ! Just replace the mud-head who doesn't want to replace this tyrannical law to a fairer one.

MarioT : This law is repressive if does not allow for bail or detention without trial at the sole discretion of the authorities. When power becomes absolute, it gives room for abuse and manipulation of charges. The British introduced ISA to contain the spread of communism. The same law under the name of SOSMA is still in existence to deprive a detainee of any legal redress. This is a serious violation of human rights. The Home Minister is asked to look into this matter in ernest and release the detainees on bail while reviewing their cases.

Cogito Ergo Sum : If the Home Minister is adamant that Sosma be retained, then the whole Cabinet and the PM have given the green light to maintaining it. It would seem that ā€˜reformasiā€™ was merely a campaign promise and not meant to be carried out.

Laws that go against the fundamental liberties are just not part of an administration that swept into power on the clarion call of reformation. How does one put food on the table if one is on an indefinite remand?

Kawak : Lets see how Home Minister and Minister of Law are going to deal with this piece of draconian law. The ordeal of the families of Sosma detainees and the outcry by the human rights should be look into. Of course, the enforcement agency wants a strict law to facilitate their investigation. But the investigation and the legal process took too long to complete causing many detained without trial for years in custody.

Open minded 2281 : I agree that MPs even belonging to the govt should bring up issues publicly when a minister cannot see injustice. The momentum should increase against the minister until he changes his views or be replaced.

GreenRusa4781 : A review of Sosma is necessary.Holding someone for years is ludicrous. It is obvious that police incompetency is one of the main reasons for the very long detention. To be able to remedy the situation calls for more than able policing by cops.

Quality of Police Officers is paramount to shortening detention periods but sadly quantity is what we get with the Police Force.Just like lack of quality teachers is the root cause of poor academic performance by students, the same can be said for the Police Force.
