Rudyard Kipling"
āWhen you're left wounded on Afganistan's plains and
the women come out to cut up what remains, Just roll to your rifle
and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldierā
General Douglas MacArthur"
āWe are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.ā
āIt is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.ā āOld soldiers never die; they just fade away.
āThe soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.ā
āMay God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .ā āThe object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
āNobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
āIt is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
Make Shamsul 'giant killer 2.0' - Nurul Izzah woos Bagan Datuk crowd By B Nantha Kumar

Malaysiakini : GE15 | If attendance at a function is a benchmark for a party's popularity, Umno may now have a reason to worry.
This follows a turnout of some 200 people for a Pakatan Harapan ceramah last night at Arena Bagan Pasir, Bagan Datuk - the seat held by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The
crowd figure is estimated to be higher than the attendance at Zahid's
own ceramah the previous night, held at the same location.
Addressing
the crowd of mostly local voters, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar
stumped for Harapan's candidate Shamsul Iskandar Akin, who moved from
his previous constituency in Malacca in a bid to unseat Zahid.
PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar at the ceramah in Bagan Datuk
"I hope that Shamsul who is known as a 'giant killer' can emerge as the 'giant killer 2.0' in Bagan Datuk. "Hopefully, on Nov 19 we will have a new parliamentarian in Bagan Datuk," said Nurul Izzah.
Also present were Harapan's candidates for the Rungkup state seat Munzirie Kabir and Wasanthee Sinnasamy for Hutan Melintang.
Giant killer
Shamsul's āgiant killerā reputation within Harapan came about after
twice defeating former Malacca chief minister Ali Rustam at the polls. A
Bagan Datuk voter who only wants to be known as āAbang Bobā said this
general election has a different vibe in light of Zahid's corruption
charges.
Harapanās candidate Shamsul Iskandar Akin
"Zahid's
ongoing corruption charges certainly have an impact on voters here.
Besides that, Harapan's candidate this time is quite well known. "In
GE14, he (Zahid) only won with a majority of around 5,000 votes. That
too, 2,000 voters came from army voters in Hutan Melintang base that was
closed under Mohamad Sabu as defence minister.
"So we can say, it is not impossible for Zahid to be defeated this time," he said. Bagan
Datuk has been Zahid's stronghold since 1995 and GE14 saw him retaining
the seat with 51.4 percent of votes in a three-cornered contest.
However,
this time Zahid is facing a tougher challenge against big names and
rising leaders from Harapan and PN, as well as former BN MP in the 1980s
turned independent, Mohamed Tawfik Ismail. Aside from Shamsul Iskandar and Tawfik, PN is fielding Bersatu supreme council member Dr Nik Muhammad Faiz Na'aman.
