The incumbent Bukit Gelugor MP felt that holding state polls separately from the general election would be imposing an additional burden on the people. According to the DAP legal bureau chairperson, the people in Penang do not want separate elections.
“I
have been on the ground in Penang... Their wish to hold state and
Parliament elections concurrently is overwhelming,” he added in a
statement this afternoon. Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng and secretary-general Anthony Loke have differing views on the matter.
Lim,
a former Penang chief minister, wanted simultaneous polls for the
DAP-controlled state but Loke preferred to adhere to the Harapan stand. Meanwhile, Ramkarpal (above) believes the people would understand that Harapan was forced into the situation if the state assemblies were dissolved. “No
doubt, Harapan states did announce they will hold their elections next
year but surely, this announcement was made in the context of avoiding a
general election amid possible floods at the end of this year.
Headhunter : Agree with Ramkarpal. People will be weary if state elections are held later and might not come out to vote in full force. And chances are, the BN assuming they win the 15th GE, will likely put their full arsenal to work. States like Penang should have nothing to worry about in term of winning the number of seats so just get on with it. Be careful what you wish for. You might regret postponing it.
Not bitten Twice : Announce change of candidate for MB for Selangor. Then go for Selangor state polls. If named Rafizi as candidate, Sure Win. Otherwise any other capable one will do.
Mano : I too think now, perhaps voter turnout will be better if both held simultaneously.
Some people may say "Aiyah, Parliament je lah kita da undi, tak payah pi election negeri "
Buang masa, duit dan tenaga
IndigoTrout2522 : Ramkarpal is right. PH states should hold state and federal elections simultaneously. The voters will understand and will not blame PH. PH states should also consider to declare voting day a public holiday.
FairCritic : We are voters will boot BN out once and for all, regardless of when the State Election is held. Rest assured. Just maintain a absolute party harmony and unity in whatever PH is doing. No public bashing please .
TTSH : Hear hear YB Ramkarpal👏👏 One of DAP sterling leaders of Penang! Now who says DAP leaders are weak and directionless? We Penangites must be firm and stand steadfast together.
If Antony Loke wants to please Anwar Ibrahim, it is up to him.
History has proven that AI/PKR has led us to nowhere. AL has better worry about his N9, and allow Penang to decide on its own future. Just mind your own states, and let us Penangites mind ours. It is in DAP leadership's favor to listen to the people of Penang rather than AI/PKR because we are the king makers.
GreenJaguar3189 : Yes, many may not return another time due to work, not getting leave and other commitments. Have the big and small festival together when everyone is there. People can think for themselves. If heavy rain wait in safe place. Who can predict the weather? May rain, may not, may be bright sunny day, maybe not.
