30 Jul 2022 : Pak Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa recently made an SOS call to Washington. He dialed the White House to seek help in loan disbursement from the IMF. Why is Bajwa acting like a diplomat?
I know the Pakistan's army is the real power in Pakistan. Still, it is violation of all normal protocols for the army chief to engage in economic matters while civilian government is in-charge. The bigger question is why US government's civilian wing is engaging with military wing of Pakistan.
Qamar Javed Bajwa has politicised his office and the Pakistani armed forces, and had actively (and covertly) supported the Taliban against the US forces in Afghanistan. The upper echelons of the Pakistani armed forces are rife with corruption, with hidden foreign bank accounts, nepotism, overseas assets disproportionate to their official income, and influenced by Pervez Musharraf's legacy of appeasing the armed forces to maintain power.
The report says he called. It doesn't say if anyone picked up his call.
