Rudyard Kipling"
āWhen you're left wounded on Afganistan's plains and
the women come out to cut up what remains, Just roll to your rifle
and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldierā
General Douglas MacArthur"
āWe are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.ā
āIt is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.ā āOld soldiers never die; they just fade away.
āThe soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.ā
āMay God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .ā āThe object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
āNobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
āIt is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
MS : Well argued. Harapan needs an object lesson in politics- that lies, half truths , using bogeymen and playing one race against another do not work any longer.
It needs to lose and lose badly before it realizes that Mahathirās business as usual Bersatu nonsense is not winning it any support.
Iām willing to excuse poor economic performance which could be due to external factors as well as inherited problems.
But backtracking on ICERD, the Rome Statute, SOSMA and organizing the October 6th Baruah gathering cannot be excused. Neither is the deliberate protection of Zakir Naik and the stoking of racial enmity via staged incidents like the Seafield temple attack for which no policeman has been hauled up for dereliction of duty.
And finally, what is also grating are the frequent threats by Mahathirās Muar poodle, his despicable disrespect for other members of the coalition and his annoying tendency to interfere in portfolios other than his own.
Malaysiakini : Pakatan Harapan promised us a whole list of things that they would do
if they were voted in. We voted them in because they said that they
would fulfil all the promises and not just a part of them.
What is
not acceptable is once they are voted in, they start to say that their
promises were a little bit too much and now they canāt actually fulfil
them. In my books, that is akin to making empty promises and, basically,
lying to us. Saying they can do something when they really canāt. Even
Mahathir admitted this a while back when he said that Harapan didnāt
expect to actually win the election and take over the government. That
was why they created the manifesto that they did. In their minds, they were going to lose, so just promise whatever, lah.
What
they are saying is that - we didnāt think we would win so we promised
you bullshit. So please keep quiet for now. Let us finish our term and
donāt punish us right away. Just punish us in another few years when the
general election comes about. A few days ago, Mahathir even said
during a press conference that if voters in Tanjung Piai voted for
Harapan, then they will be able to fulfil their promises. But if they vote for the opposition, then all promises wouldnāt be fulfilled.
How
do they expect us to believe that now when it has already been quite
obvious that Pakatan Harapan are prone to making big promises that they
canāt or donāt even intend to fulfil? And they expect us Malaysians to
just take it sitting down? Come on. Many people ask me if I
actually prefer that the old regime comes back and take over the
government. Of course not. They are the worst and I do not want them
back in power, unless they totally change themselves to a party that I
would agree with, which seems highly unlikely.
But that doesnāt
mean Iām going to just allow Pakatan Harapan to continue to dupe and con
us. If anything, I would want to start punishing them now so that they
will actually take notice and do something before itās too late. And
the way to punish them, aside from constantly critiquing, is to show in
the ballot box. Right now, the most immediate ballot box available is
in Tanjung Piai. This just could be the right message to make them take
heed. Hopefully.
