Israel
has lodged an official protest to Ireland over the invitation of Leila
Khaled, a convicted Palestinian plane hijacker who has continued to
advocate violence against Israelis, to speak at a teachers’ club in
Dublin belonging to the Irish National Teachers’ Organization.
Violent jihadist “plane hijacker Leila Khaled” is invited to speak at
a teachers’ club, while free speech activists and supporters of
democratic values continue to be demonized.
It’s the theatre of the absurd. Human rights, tolerance, pluralism
and the freedom of speech once flourished across Europe; now, those who
uphold hatred, intolerance, violence, and the forcible silencing of
dissenting views are celebrated and lionized.
The invitation to Khaled, even though it was ultimately rescinded
under pressure, is another step for Ireland down the path to
self-destruction.
Irish officials also recently asked homeowners to house Muslim migrants in the spare rooms of their homes for up to a year.
