The police have reportedly reclassified his death as “murder”. On May 28, Bukit Aman announced it had set up a special task force
headed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to
investigate the circumstances surrounding Dharmendan’s death. A day later, four policemen, said to have been on duty when Dhamendran died, were assigned to desk duties. There have been two other reported lock-up deaths since Dharmendran’s death.
