Rudyard Kipling"
“When you're left wounded on Afganistan's plains and
the women come out to cut up what remains, Just roll to your rifle
and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier”
General Douglas MacArthur"
“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”
“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.” “Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.
“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .” “The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
“Nobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
GE13 Malaysia: Who to Vote for? (A Christian Contribution)
Saturday, April 06, 2013
Christians decide carefully who you want to vote for. Watch this video, which gives you ideas on what issues are important to you. You decide.
The general election will take place very soon. It is the right and duty
of every eligible Catholic to vote. Our vote is not only to choose the
right government but to express our expectations in the right election
candidate. This letter gives my personal opinion on right Christian
voting.
Much is being said and written on fair elections, making a
change, party politics, revealing alleged atrocities etc. in the
Internet and printed media. We have a higher responsibility than just
expressing our feelings over which party should be ruling us. As
Catholics we have a responsibility to reveal and reflect the Truth. Our
vote should be the ‘voice of Christ’ in the current day political
setting which seems to be filled with self-centred agendas which are not
for the good of all men and women regardless of race, creed or culture.
In my opinion we need to do the following before we vote:
1. Pray and reflect
2.
Take responsibility to listen, read and learn about all the parties’
manifestos and be aware of what kind of government they propose. Will it
be for the good and growth of all men? Will it be promoting Justice?
3.
Vote for the candidate who as a person preaches and to the best of our
knowledge practises Justice, Truthfulness and Ethical political
behaviour rather than voting for any candidate just because he belongs
to the party our heart and emotions prefer. The right candidate in any
party will do the right thing. The wrong candidate in any party will do
the wrong thing.
As Catholics we must make it very clear that
while we love all men, we support only right values in politics. Being
such a voter one may not be popular or thought to be correct by all.
However, can we afford not to take the opportunity to make Christ known
in politics? It is an opportune time that this election will take place
in the Year of Faith.
So let us pray, reflect, discern and then
vote. Let us look beyond ourselves. Let us look beyond 5 years. Let us
look beyond 10 years. Let us consider the laws that will govern
politicians in God’s Kingdom here on earth. Let us consider promoting a
politics which prefers Justice, Truth and Ethics. Herald Malaysia JR Victor Ipoh
