Among the host of issues, concerns and aspirations that we
carry within our bosom as we walk to the polling station to define a future for
all Malaysians, we must also be mindful of the late Altantuya. Even as we are about to choose the political party that we
want to form the next government, we have no answers as a nation as well as have
not delivered justice for poor Altantuya.
The late Altantuya is far more than just a murder. It is far
more than just a loss of life. It has everything to do with national integrity. Let us not forget she is not just a ‘fast lane model,
mistress and interpreter’ as she has
often been made out to loom in main stream media. She is a mother and daughter
too. She is human just like all Malaysians. It is the circumstances surrounding her bomb-blasted death and
the subsequent lengthy yet unresolved justice that still pricks our conscience.
What is the precipitate meaning of ‘Promises Fulfilled’ if
we still cannot dispense with honorable justice in atonement for the gruesome
murder that was committed on Malaysian soil? Till this hour, as we wait for the
mother-of-all battles, GE-13, we do not have answers to many questions. Who was the mastermind who instructed the bomb-blasting of
this Mongolian citizen?
Why was she murdered in such manner using C4 to blow all
traces of her from the face of the earth? How on earth did the C4 get to leave the military security and
why was it used on a single, fragile female human?
If blasting her into nothingness was not enough, how come
there were no entry and egress records of her into this country? Why and what made the two accused uniformed personnel to
carry out this Guinness Book of World-record murder? How come for the first time the courts have ruled that
motive is not relevant for this specific murder case? Connect this gruesome, merciless and heinous crime with the
numerous instances of suspicious and surprising deaths of Malaysians while in
custody.
Is this the type of nation we should be? And for how long
more? How then are we going to salvage, repair, repent and restore the image,
reputation and integrity of this nation of people? Truly the outcome of GE-13 will establish beyond doubt
whether Malaysians are truly committed to the universal principles of justice,
honor and truly uphold truth or whether we really do not care who dies and who
lives.
