Whatever happened to half of the 80 Skyhawks we bought? Here are the 40, not all, dumped, not even as scrap! I managed to pick these images off a defence forum. Half were left in the desert of Arizona, oh yes, it was a good storage area due to the low humidity and the dryness of the air. I read that somewhere. I wonder whatever happened to the 40 left in the US. Apparently, I am sure looking at the culture of dishonesty, someone must have become rich, very rich. We were very concerned as Infantry men.
We needed these fighter ground attack aircraft to cover our arses at that moment when South Vietnam fell. Those days, we remembered that genocidal maniac Mao Tze Tung saying that the "East Is Red". We were there to prevent his henchmen like Chin Peng, Rashid Mydin, Shamsieh Fakeh etc, etc making the fat and obese Chairman of the PRC's statement becoming true. Yep, alot of us died, yo, you half assed dumb politicians. They who died were of many faiths and races.
At that moment in time we infantry wallahs thought we might have a fighting chance against the might of the Vietnamese who were the proxies for two great powers, Russia and China, with these 80 Skyhawks we bought. The US was licking it's wounds after the fall of Saigon. They were not to be depended upon, the clarity of Saigon was starring us in the face. We were alone, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Phillipines and Indonesia. Australia was in their sights too. The Aussies knew that, they too would soon be on the firing line.
This must at least be the quarter of what we bought, when South Vietnam fell to the Communists.
A sad picture of our many defence procurements. As they say, a picture paints a thousand words. which is pathetic. |
