Penang Gerakan Youth leader Huan Cheng Guan has quit with immediate effect as state Barisan Nasional Youth chief, to protest the disrespect shown to his party’s acting head Koh Tsu Koon by several Umno members yesterday. They had torn up and trampled on a photograph of Gerakan acting president Koh Tsu Koon at the Penang Umno headquarters. Remember what the Gerakan pipsqueak, Penang Youth leader Huan Cheng Guan said he would not tolerate Koh being subjected to “such humiliation and utter contempt” by segments within Umno. “It’s too much for me to take. How could they tear down my leader’s photo and step on it?

Penang Gerakan and Umno have "made up" and are cooperating again for the betterment of the people. State Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan said the misunderstanding between the two occurred a long time ago under different leadership. "This is an old issue and it will be childish for us to hold on to old issues that happened a long time ago. Besides, the leadership of both parties has changed," he said. Dr Teng had earlier announced the Penang Gerakan’s Deepavali open house celebration at the party’s headquarters in Macalister Road this Saturday and said all Barisan Nasional component parties, including Umno, have been invited to the event.
"We are also inviting the state government and even the chief minister through the press," he said.Penang Gerakan had severed all ties with the state Umno last September after a widely publicised disagreement between Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and the former Bukit Bendera Umno chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail. Ahmad had called for Koh to be stripped of his state Barisan chairman post after Koh criticised Ahmad for his alleged racist remarks describing Malaysian Chinese as "squatters". The Sun
The issue died down a few days later when Umno suspended Ahmad of his membership rights and stripped him of his posts for three years for making remarks deemed offensive by the Chinese community.

Meanwhile, Kampung Kolam state assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik (left) lodged a police report at the Jalan Patani station in George Town today against state Umno secretary Azhar Ibrahim for saying that the “Sin Chiew journalist ought to be shot if her article causes another May 13”.
The statement was reportedly made during an earlier press conference by Ahmad, held last Friday.
